A Retrospective Literary Study with Joanna Macy
Jan 9-March 20 2021 : 10am-12 pm PDT/PST
presented by Music As Medicine Project
As a species, as nations, and as diverse communities committed to turning our legacies towards regeneration and justice, we are at a threshold. The prospects of the future are uncertain. Destruction and unraveling abound. And, we are called to act on behalf of life itself.
For the last four decades, Joanna Macy's work has offered inspiration and guidance for living courageously in uncertainty. It maps ways into our innate vitality and determination to take part in the self-healing of our world. It presents a form of group work that has grown steadily since the 1970s, helping hundreds of thousands of people around the globe find solidarity and courage to act, despite rapidly worsening social and ecological conditions.
And this January, we are returning to Joanna's writing alongside her. In his first-of-its-kind course, we will cover selections from Joanna's 5-decade long writing career, gathering at a well of timely teachings on seeing clearly, feeling deeply, and acting for life with great love.
A living elder and wisdom keeper, a Buddhist philosopher, deep ecology and systems thinking scholar, and founder of the "Work that Reconnects," Joanna Macy is a treasure.
As the world around us reckons with racial injustice, rampant inequality, and blatant disregard for planetary well-being, we are called to defend and struggle for life. And each of us needs roots for the struggle — roots in the movement histories and legacies of resistance that precede us. We need our elders.
